Benviniuto a Como!

Early wakeup call to our last breakfast in Munich. Piled on the bus to depart for Neuschwanstein Castle, the home of King Ludwig II, known as the fairy tale king. For those of you who are Disney fans, this is where Walt Disney's inspiration came from for the design of Cinderella's castle.

According to Dr. Pelosi's pedometer, we hiked 1.5 miles directly uphill in the pouring rain to the castle, which rested atop a Bavarian mountain. The hike was well worth it as we toured the unfinished castle. Designed as an homage to Wagner, King Ludwig died of mysterious circumstances before its completion. However it's gothic architecture and regal paintings were most impressive.

After the equally wet hike back down the hill, we boarded the bus and headed for Italy, stopping in Austria for lunch. Along the way, there were spectacular views of the Swiss Alps, with interspersed cascades of water due to the constant rain. Shout out to our bus driver, Masi, who skillfully navigated the narrow, winding roads.

The long bus ride was full of coursework, including presentations on St. Francis and The Italian Wine Industry. Who knew we had two wine makers in our midst, Mr. Rosario, and Mr. Covino. We also had our first quiz and the coaches challenged the students to see which group would earn the highest quiz average.

After crossing the Italian border, we arrived in Como for a somewhat soggy training session. As we watched the guys practice from the deck of the local sport club, we heard cheers and applause from local onlookers, watching from the balconies of the surrounding houses.

Upon arrival at our hotel we were treated to a three course, traditional italian meal. We had some free time before bed to swim in the rooftop pool which overlooked the city of Como.
